Together we can

Caring for African Women and Children

About the project

Project Summary

This centre has 20 students and only one classroom. The age of the students are 4 years up to 20 years.

Activities

Kiswahili, Maths, Science and English and sports are all taught to the students at this school. It’s often a good idea to become creative when planning lessons, as this is something that tends to lack in most education in both Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. You will usually find your own method that works and may introduce it to the other teaching staff. Morning activities involving the local women include, knitting, making baskets, doormats, pottery and cooking classes.

Schedule

This centre is open 5 days a week and is only a afternoon project Classes are from 4pm - 6pm and 7pm - 20.45pm. Saturdays and Sundays the local women of fuoni do a environmental cleanup starting 6.30am - 10am.

Resources

The resources at this centre are very limited so any donations you can bring will be greatly appreciated. Stationary such as Pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, books also desks for the children to work on and chairs as you will see most of the children work sitting on the floor.

Special points

The children attending the centre are mainly Muslim and Christian. We ask volunteers to respect a more professional dress code on Zanzibar due to the large Muslim population. Maximum 4 volunteers needed at this project.
