Zanzibar Youth

About the project

Project Summary

This centre has 75 students in total. Ages from 4 years to 20 years. They are divided into 6 classes.

Activities

Kishwahili, Maths, English, and sports are taught to all the students. Heathcare, drug abuse,HIV aids awareness, and Human rights are also needed to be taught at the centre. Its often a good idea to become creative when planning lessons, as this is something that tends to lack in most education in both Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. You will usually find your own method that works and may introduce it to the other teaching staff.

Schedule

This Centre is open five days a week from and 4pm – 6pm in the afternoon and 7pm - 8.50pm evening

Resources

The resources at this centre are very limited so any donations you can bring will be greatly appreciated. Stationary such as Pencils, erasers, sharpeners and rulers etc

Special points

The children attending the centre are mainly Muslim and Christian. We ask volunteers to respect a more professional dress code on Zanzibar due to the large Muslim population. Maximum 4 volunteers needed at this project.
